Connect Initiative 2025

Based on the success of 2024 Connect Initiative, the QUBIC Research Committee is opening a new round of Connect funding and calling for multidisciplinary and cross-node collaborative research projects! These projects may include one or several of the categories below:

  • Travel requests between QUBIC research nodes to perform a short-term research project (experimental, numerical or analytical) in collaborator’s lab. These cover travel for CIs, AIs, QUBIC-affiliated EMCRs and HDRs.
  • Access to major infrastructure and facilities at QUBIC nodes.
  • Travel requests between QUBIC Partner Investigators’ labs and QUBIC nodes. These may include travel for QUBIC CIs, PIs, AIs, QUBIC-affiliated EMCRs and HDRs.

The QUBIC Research Committee has allocated $40,000 a year for domestic projects and $10,000 for projects involving overseas Partner Investigators.

Eligibility:

  • Chief Investigators
  • Associate Investigators
  • Partner Investigators
  • QUBIC-affiliated EMCRs
  • QUBIC HDR students

The preference will be given to QUBIC members who have not previously received Connect Initiative funding, however everyone is encouraged to apply.

Selection criteria:

When writing your application please address the following selection criteria:

  1. Quality of your project aims – explain in simple terms the aim of your project, what is it trying to achieve and what would be the potential outcome and impact of your research if funded.
  2. Quality of your project plan – describe how you will achieve the aims stated above in the finite time allocated for the project. Explain why the project is feasible, what resources will be available for you and how the research visit be conducted. Also, discuss briefly any additional costs on equipment/consumables requested and how they will assist with fulfilling the aims of your project.
  3. Is budget adequate to achieving the project aims?
  4. Project alignment with QUBIC Strategic Objectives

Eligible expenses:

You may include following items as your expenses for the project:

  • Flights (economy-class airfares).
  • Accommodation at the location of the research visit.
  • Equipment postage and shipment costs.
  • Transfer costs (taxi from the airport, local train fares etc.)
  • Meal costs.
  • Other costs related to the achieving aim of the project (please describe in the project plan).
