Quantinuum Technical Seminar: Recent Results on Quantinuum Helios

TIME: 2:00pm

WHEN: 16 November, 2026

LOCATION: Global Change Institute (GCI), Room 20-275, The University of Queensland and Zoom

TIMEZONE: AEST

What can quantum computers do today, and how are recent advances in fault tolerance helping prepare for tomorrow?
This seminar will explore both questions through recent results from Helios, Quantinuum’s third-generation quantum computer.
Join Dr Chris Langer, Fellow and Senior Technical Leader at Quantinuum, for a technical seminar exploring the latest developments in quantum computing, including system performance, emerging applications and recent advances in fault-tolerant quantum computing.
Researchers, students and industry professionals with an interest in quantum technologies are encouraged to attend. Questions and discussion will be welcomed throughout the session.
Date: Monday 16 November 2026
Time: 2:00pm-3:00pm AEST  /3:00pm-4:00pm AEDT
Format: Hybrid
Location: Global Change Institute (GCI), Room 20-275, The University of Queensland, or online via Zoom.
Speaker:
Dr Chris Langer is a Fellow and senior technical leader at Quantinuum where he focuses on architecture and strategy for quantum hardware development. Chris is a key inventor and holds several dozen patents in the space and serves as an advisor to c-suite level leaders. Chris joined Quantinuum’s predecessor, Honeywell Quantum Solutions, in 2016. Prior to Quantinuum, Chris spent 10 years working for Lockheed Martin. Chris received his PhD in Physics from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2006 under the direction of Nobel laureate David Wineland for work in ion trap quantum computing.
Abstract:
Helios is Quantinuum’s 3rd generation quantum computer. It houses 98 moveable ion qubits with fidelities greater than 99.92% across all qubit pairs. I will describe how Helios works and benchmarks of its performance. I will showcase applications run on Helios, including light-induced superconductivity. Lastly, I will highlight recent results in fault-tolerant quantum computing, including our recent result showing 5e-6 logical memory error without post-selection.
